How To Survive A Breakup l AimeeBellMua

So if you have been following me on Instagram and Twitter for the last year or so you will know I have been through some pretty tough breakups.


Breaking up with someone is one of the hardest things to go through in life and one thing when getting into a relationship you instantly feel scared that one day all these happy fireworks may fizzle out and end.

I thought I would share with you some tips to help you get through it, get over it, learn from it & be a better person from it. Try to turn the negatives into a positive.

Whether the relationship lasted 3 years or 3 weeks breakups can leave us feeling heartbroken, lost or even physically ill. Whilst there is no easy way to get rid of the pain from a split there is some ways to help you along the way to getting over it.

1.     Write it down: Sometimes writing down your thoughts in a journal, having a good cry, or talking to a therapist or friend can help you process and gain the clarity you need to see why the relationship didn’t work – and why you are better off being without your former partner.
If you feel like crying cry, there is no better way to speed up the process of moving on by just letting it all out and cry it out. Bottling it up will only suppress any feelings you have about it.
2.     Take care of your body: Don’t go on the break up diet!  It may see like a good idea as a way to get revenge on an ex but it can easily be a way of punishing yourself to reinforce feelings of rejection and develop and unhealthy relationship to food.
Instead of restricting calories, eat nourishing foods which are high in fibre, protein and nutrients to help boost your mood and energy.
3.     Exercise: This is a good way to let off steam and get rid of some anger you may have built up inside (But remember to do this in a healthy manor alongside a healthy diet!) Getting your endorphins pumping through cardio exercise is often prescribed as a way to get over a break up. Exercise is a good way to lower your stress levels, and boosting your mood.
This will help prevent you from shutting down and feeling sorry for yourself!
4.     Remind yourself of all the great things in your life: Its so easy to see everything as a loss and then it starts taking over the good in your life.
Painful breakups can cloud your thinking so you need to ensure you overlook the immediate feelings of pain and loss. You can find it difficult to remember all the things you appreciate because you get so focused on the negative. I know I do! Initially you have to force yourself to think of all the things you are grateful for such as; family, friends, a place to live, a job, money, being able to drive etc. You could even be grateful for no longer having to cope with your ex’s bad habits!’
5.     Do things YOU love: After a bad break up its hard to get back to doing things that you love. But forcing yourself to do these again is a way to start enjoying life again. Treat yourself to something to make you feel good like a new haircut, pampering, food with friends etc! Self-care is essential to the healing process. Do things which will make you laugh! Laughter helps us speed up the healing, both emotionally and physically!
6.     Have a clear out! Whether is getting rid of your ex’s stuff, photos, things that remind you of them, even if it’s moving your bedroom around to mentally feel refreshed do it! Out with the old and in with the new. The feeling of new is very rejuvenating and refreshing!
7.      Plenty more fish in the see:  Finally this is something that should excite you. You can learn from each break up knowing exactly what you don’t want in a guy! My gran tells me that you have to go through the toads to find your prince & once you find him you will know why it went so wrong with the others. I now live by this! One day I know I will settle down with the person I am destined to be with even if it’s a rocky roller coaster to get there!
